HOW TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER - STEP 1

If you are like me, then when you were a child you probably spent most of you time making your doll's clothes and accessories, drawing and making collages, enjoying the magic of color, and learning to sew and knit at an early age, to then leave your friends behind at your teen days in order to watch fashion magazines, fashion shows and day dreaming about the new garmet and accessory you wanted to create. Yes! you love fashion, and you are a magnificent candidate, but do you know how to become a fashion designer?

Where should you start?

That's probably the most common question we have as fashion lovers, you are so eager to get into the fashion sector, but you are not really sure how to do it, right?
In my case I didn't  know anybody with this career, I didn't know any schools, I didn't even know that Fashion Design was actually a career I could pursue, I just knew I loved to design and create fashion garments and accessories, and I knew it since I was a little child. So, when I first met design was at high-school, I made my first ready to production handbag (I made a lot earlier, but design should be mass produced, and I was able to go further in the production stages at that moment, so it was a clarity moment for me), and I really wanted to be part of fashion design, so I looked for schools, and there weren't any of them near to where I lived, and I couldn't move, so I decided to get into industrial design career.
Industrial design wasn't really what I was looking for, I liked some things of course, the design process is quite similar, and some aspects are really helpful, but other things just seemed to be irrelevant for me. My desire to be a fashion designer was still there, I just didn't want it, I needed it, during that period I continued to develop my fashion skills, I read tons of books, I participated in tons of courses, I designed and sew a lot of garments, and also tons of my favorite accessories, lots of handbags! I was making them for me and people loved them, so I also started my own small fashion business.
I felt amazing! I was doing what I loved and people loved what I was doing. Then, I realized the very first step to become a fashion designer is to really want it, I continued studying, specializing and I keep learning everyday.
So, if you want to be a fashion designer, your first step is to ask yourself if you want to be part of the fashion world, be thoughtful because fashion might seem glamorous and a piece of cake, but the truth is fashion involves a lot of hard work, you have to be willing to work days and nights in order to accomplish your dream, you will need to be determined and persevere no matter what.
